Barque is a boutique in Lubbock, Texas with a focus on unique gifts, events on paper and all things puppy love.
That name – where did it come from? According to the dictionary, barque is a sailing vessel. For us, it’s a term we coined to encompass our unique product selection – paper, dog products, and gourmet gifts.
How do you pronounce it? barque – [bahrk]: sounds just like the bark on a tree, or a dog’s bark
About the Owner, Kandice Matsler
Job title: owner/buyer/graphic designer/dog momma
Favorite color: red
Loves: cooking, laughing, antiquing and gardening
Education: Texas Tech University
Fun fact: Kandice’s love for paper was born when she worked at Calligraphy Etc.(the store name for 30 years before it was Barque) in college. After graduation, she moved to Dallas to work for an invitation designer for 7 years, then was offered the chance to come back to Lubbock and buy the store that inspired her love of paper to begin with! To put a more modern twist on it, the name of the store was changed from Calligraphy Etc. to Barque in April 2014.
